Barbara Scherr is a Family Involvement Coordinator in the Title I Office and State Ombudsman for Equitable Services at the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Her primary responsibility is building capacity for educators by providing technical assistance, training, and support to school systems and Title I schools in parent and family engagement. She also provides training and guidance to local school systems on the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of Title I programs as authorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act. Over the span of her career, Barb has been instrumental in developing several statewide family engagement initiatives including a family literacy campaign, Take 15 for the Family; MSDE’s internal Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Team; Maryland’s PreK-12 Family Engagement Framework; and MSDE’s Parent and Family Engagement (PFE) Express for Title I practitioners. She serves on the National Association of Family, School and Community Engagement (founding member) and the Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium, Inc. Boards. Family engagement matters! Her vision is that all educators, early childhood practitioners, school staff, parents and family members work in partnership to ensure all children reach their fullest potential
